Fledgling game studio Clockwork Labs has raised $4.3 million to create a community sandbox MMORPG.
The fully-remote studio was quietly established in 2019 by veteran engineers Tyler Cloutier and Alessandro Asoni, who previously worked on MMO strategy titles Game of War and Mobile Strike, and has already recruited talent from Ubisoft and Kakao Games.
The nascent company has been venture-backed by Supercell, Firstminute Capital, 1Up Ventures, and more, and is focused on creating “societal games” that encourage player interaction and co-operation over straight-up combat.
“We started Clockwork Labs to create the kind of ambitious MMORPG project we’ve wanted to play for years, but which required our new proprietary tech,” said Cloutier in a press release.
There’s no word on when Clockwork’s mystery MMO will see the light of day, with the company simply promising to share more details at a “later date.”
