Square Enix today reported a notable leap in profits for the first half of the current fiscal year, and revised its full year profits, suggesting it may double its original forecast. The company says that its video game business is expanding all over the place — mobile, console and browser games all performed favorably for the company in the last six months. On mobile, Dragon Quest Monsters Super Light and Schoolgirl Strikers are bringing in the cash, while MMOs Final Fantasy XIV and Dragon Quest X are also doing the job. In fact increased video games sales were more than enough to offset a decrease in amusement and arcade machine sales for the company. For the half year ended September 30, Square Enix’s Digital Entertainment business, which houses its video games, saw revenues of 43.8 billion yen ($382.1 million), an increase of 42.8 percent year-over-year, and operating income of 7.9 billion yen ($68.9 million), up 129.4 percent. Overall, Square Enix posted revenues of 73.1 billion yen ($637.8 million), up 18.6 percent year-over-year, and profits of 5.7 billion yen ($49.7 million), up 118.8 percent. And the company now estimates that it will make around 155 billion yen ($1.4 billion) in revenues this year, up 7 percent compared to its previous forecast, and profits of around 9.0 billion yen ($78.5 million), up around 80 percent compared to the original forecast.
